Security is fundamental not only considering the constant sophistication of threat, linked to cyber security, and the greater dependence on external solutions suppliers for companies, but also it becomes strategic in terms of business development. We do not want to talk about the new risks that this change is leading, but we want to emphasize the opportunities that the new wave of innovation could bring, through security, to the business in general.
Innovative way to interpret Security is based on predictive and analytics logics. This approach, combined with new technological tools, makes the data, its acquisition and processing, the fuel to activate the innovation engine and transforms the security identity, ennobling it in a highly strategic key, not only in terms of business protection but also in terms of possibility of growth. It is interesting, in fact, to underline how the same data, acquired by security tools, such as video surveillance, for example, thanks to artificial intelligence, emphasizes its value, in terms of business prevention and protection, but also becomes an instrument to know customers behaviours logic and improve management.
Secursat's Security Solution Lab is carrying out, following these new developments, video analysis projects. Video analysis by applying algorithms to video streams recorded by video surveillance systems, transforms a visual data, usually analysed only after the occurrence of a criminal event, in a numerical data, easy to interpret, aggregate and compare with other data and, therefore, useful to prevent risk scenarios and also to create maps based on real behaviour and improve business development strategies.
However, the evolution of technology by itself is not sufficient, it must be accompanied by an evolution of the human approach. In this evolved and "connected" scenario, in which big data take a central position, critical thinking, analytical skills and a strategic and transversal vision become fundamental within the process of creating value for the business. Therefore, while we are concerned about the risks of this new scenario, managers able to understand the instrumental value of technology in critical or strategic areas in any company and implementing concrete business intelligence action would be necessary.
